Professor Jim Macnamara from the University of Technology Sydney will report findings of a recent research study of more than 200 organisations across Australasia examining their use of social media for internal and external communication, which highlight a number of gaps and risks in relation to social media strategy and governance – and also opportunities for professional communicators to advise and add value in their organisations.

Jim Macnamara PhD, MA, FPRIA, FAMI, CPM, FAMEC is Professor of Public Communication at the University of Technology Sydney and Director of the Australian Centre of Public Communication, positions he took up in 2007 after a 30-year professional career spanning journalism, public relations, advertising, and media research.
He is the author of 12 books including The 21st Century Media (R)evolution: Emergent Communication Practices published by Peter Lang, New York in 2010 and Public Relations Theories, Practices, Critiques published by Pearson Australia in 2011 as well as numerous research articles on social media and public communication.
