Magic makers behind IABC NSW events
Ever wondered who’s behind the buzz at our IABC NSW events? Meet our awesome events team and find out why we love seeing you at our meetups.
We asked Hallie and Paula (just 2 of the stars behind our events) for some insights into why they chose events as their Board role, what's coming up, advice for someone attending their first event and why Paula is loving her regional meetups.
Q1: What drew you to events?
Hallie: It was an event that brought me into IABC NSW. I walked out of that session and used something I’d learnt the very next day to navigate a tough client conversation. So when Patrick suggested I join the events team, I was already convinced of their impact. I was all-in.
Q2: Favourite event this year?
Hallie: Tough call! Our ‘2025 Trends’ panel kicked off the year with practical insights, and the internal comms event had such a great vibe, Rachel Miller was a standout guest. The crisis comms event was, however, my personal favourite. The speakers were generous with their expertise, and the breakout groups sparked real conversations. I hope it inspired everyone to dust off their crisis plans! We also provided the resources from the breakout groups as practical scenarios you can try in your teams. I really enjoy being able to give our events attendees and members tangible tools they can walk away with.
Q3: What’s coming up?
Hallie: We’re in celebration mode now. We have a Gold Quill Award focused event in November and end-of-year drinks in December. In 2026, expect more focus on internal comms, government relations, and strategic planning as we navigate AI’s impact. We’re keen to hear what topics will help members grow, fill skill gaps, and build networks - please complete the short event ideas form below. Your feedback really matters.
Q4: What’s the value of IABC events?
Hallie: They’re a chance to meet collaborators, gain new skills, and be reminded that we’re all facing similar challenges, and can help each other through them. It’s also a fantastic opportunity to meet and mingle with your comm peers.
Q5: Advice for first-timers?
Hallie: Don’t worry if the topic isn’t a perfect fit. You’ll learn something, meet someone interesting, and the catering is great! We’re a friendly bunch and love seeing new faces at our events.
Q6: Paula on Newcastle events
Paula: Hosting events locally has been amazing. It’s helped grow our Hunter and Coastal network and build a strong sense of community. We’ll definitely continue these in 2026 and they’re a great way to stay connected without always travelling to Sydney. If you’d like to know about our Hunter and Coastal network, please contact Paula for more information and details and sign up for updates below.
